2017년 트럼프 행정부가 출범한 이후 한미 연합 군사연습의 시행 여부가 이슈화되었다. 2018년 제1차 북·미 간의 비핵화 협상 이후 UFG 연습은 유예되었고, 이후 KR/FE 및 UFG 연습은 새로운 저강도 연습으로 대체되었으며, 그 마저도 COVID-19사태로 인해 시행되지 않거나 규모를 축소하여 시행하고 있다. 이러한 현 상황에서 본고는 현재 한미 연합 군사연습이 축소 또는 유예 되는 문제점, 더 나아가 군사연습 구조에 대한 문제점을 진단하고 이에 대한 발전방향을 제시하였다.

A Study on the Development Direction of the Joint ROK-U.S. Military Exercise 

Since Recently, KR/FE and UFG exercises have been replaced by new low-intensity exercises, and even those are implemented due to the COVID-19 incident. In this current situation, this paper diagnosed the problem of reducing or delaying the ROK-U.S. joint military exercise, and furthermore, the problem of the military exercise structure, and suggested the direction of development.
